Support protected bike lanes and pedestrian crossings on East Oltorf
East Oltorf between Montopolis and South Pleasant Valley is nobody’s favorite place to walk and bike. But with your support, this almost 1.5 mile stretch could soon see big improvements.
How we love street resurfacings here at Safe Streets Austin. East Oltorf Street is set to be resurfaced in 2027, opening up a valuable opportunity to address this overbuilt, fast, dangerous, and unwelcoming roadway. Upgrading bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure here will vastly improve general safety and access to the many homes and businesses in the area.
In particular, on East Oltorf, Safe Streets Austin is calling for:
Wide protected bike lanes, with both one-way and two-way options analyzed
New pedestrian crossings at key intersections, including Huntwick Drive, Sundridge Drive, and Memory Lane
A lane conversion from the current 5-lanes to 3-lanes for safer vehicle speeds and accommodate protected bike lanes
These kinds of improvements have consistently delivered for Austin and are a no-brainer for implementation on Oltorf. Take the City’s East Oltorf survey now and speak up for these improvements.
